Wise & Young is the duo of percussionist Peter Wise and violinist Jeffrey Young, who create electronically effected instrumental music. The duo mines classical, rock, jazz and electronic influences and pulls nuance and wonder as much from traditional instruments like violin and drums as from found materials, pots and pans, and eviscerated ’80s drum machines. They develop their music collaboratively through a process of improvisation, recording, and revision.

Peter and Jeffrey met in New York City’s creative music scene during their years living in the city, then reconnected after each moved independently to the Allston/Brighton section of Boston. Their initial work together was supported by an Opportunity Fund grant from the Boston Cultural Council, which provided funding and a venue, the Harvard Ed Portal, for their duo premiere in March 2019.
